Justice League: Another Attempt of DC against Marvel

There was a stiff competition in the 'superheroes category' this year. Even in November, both the sides, Marvel and DC, dropped two awesome movies. Marvel went with Thor (Thor: Ragnarok) so to create a little bit more hype of their another awaited movie, Avengers: Infinite War, the ritual that they have been doing for past a decade; while DC dropped a high budget movie in its 'Team series', Justice League. The DC 'team series' started with Suicide Squad in 2016, though it's another known fact that they got this idea 4 years late (Avengers in 2012). But let's not go there. Justice League is in no doubt, one of the ' better ' DC movies. After the rough hits by critiques to their previous movies, Justice League is actually the movie that stood up after those hits, though could not be said in strong standing. The following contains spoilers! Justice League DIRECTION DC is known for its dark reflection and Zack Snyder, as alwa

Top 10 American TV Series that are much Better than Indian TV Series

Indian Television is one of the biggest TV Series industry, however, it is not considered as the best. The Indian Television is being dominated by soap operas which constitute 87% of the total shows that are broadcasted on TV. Some of these are a major success in India, however, nobody stays in the limelight for a long time.

On the other hand, American TV Series are different from Indian TV Series. The American Television consist of all type of shows and is not dominated by a single genre. However, there is a stiff competition like that with India too, but its degree is much less as compared with Indian Television. Adding more to that, the companies there invest a lot of amount on VFX which makes it visually appeal to the public.

Ending this pro-cons lecture, let's jump directly to our list.

Here are Top 10 American TV Series that are much Better than Indian TV Series:

(👍): My favourite and personal recommendation

10. 13 REASONS WHY

13 REASONS WHY
Adapted from the book 'Thirteen Reasons Why' by Jay Asher, the series revolves around a high school student, Clay Jenson and another student Hannah Baker, who committed suicide after suffering a series of demoralising circumstances, brought on by select individuals at her school. A box of thirteen cassettes recorded by Hannah is the only evidence which tells the 13 reasons why she committed suicide.

The series is one of the most popular series on Netflix and is a must watch. The idea is totally different from those Indian soap operas and may change your perception about Indian Television.

Trivia: The recordings are available at the website of Jay Asher.
They are kind of eerie and spooky but is a great source for spoilers.

Genre: Drama

 9. THE BIG BANG THEORY(👍)

THE BIG BANG THEORY

Created by the legends Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, the series revolves around four nerdy scientists and their life. One of the most popular sitcom TV series, it's known for its sexist, communal and satirical jokes. Hence, it is recommended to watch the show with an open mind. One of the famous characters of the show is Sheldon Cooper (played by Jim Parsons) who is known for its 'mature baby' character.

In the name of comedy, there are few decent shows in India which either are soap operas or talk shows. The Big Bang Theory (TBBT) is totally a different show which revolves around a totally different idea which sounds totally idiotic but still is totally awesome!

Trivia: In real life, Jim Parsons is gay and is married to Todd Spiewak. They even got the famous Otto Bravo-Hot Couple award in 2013.

Genre: Comedy

8. STRANGER THINGS

STRANGER THINGS
Another popular series by Netflix, Stranger Things is one of the best top rated series in Fiction category. The series revolves around a fictional town Hawkins in Indiana, USA. A boy, Will was disappeared after a 'strange incident' and his friends, his mother and a local police chief start searching him. May sound boring when reading, but it's really not. Based in the 1980s, the whole series is a mix of fiction, horror, drama and historical drama. Overall, it's mix package.

Comparing this with Indian Television is risible. Both are totally at different levels. The Duffer Brothers (Creators of the series) has implemented and directed so well that it is impossible to compare with other Indian TV series based on the same idea.

Trivia: The series gave a lot of respect to Stephen Speilberg, John Carpenter and Stephen King who were the big 'things' in the 1980s.

Genre: Science Fiction

7. DEXTER

DEXTER

One of the top rated Psychological Thriller/ Crime Drama series of all time, Dexter revolves around a Miami Metro Police Department blood spatter analyst, Dexter Morgon. At daytime, he solves the crimes but at night, he commits them. However, he only kills those guys who kill other guys. This double-role is so enthralling due to which it was nominated for 23 Primetime Emmy Awards and 9 Golden Globe Awards.

Comparing Dexter with Indian Television is impractical. The censor board of India is too strict that they will ban any TV series which revolves around an idea like that of Dexter.

Trivia: Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall) who was a foster brother of  Debra Morgan (played by Jennifer Carpenter) were actually married! In real life, they got married after 2 years when the series started and got divorced before 2 years when series got ended.

Genre: Crime Drama

6. THE WALKING DEAD

THE WALKING DEAD

After a zombie apocalypse plagued the U.S.A, a police officer, Rick Grimes woke up from the coma and after some time, found himself leading a group of survivors. The whole series is based on one concept, survival. This may be a reason that its popularity has marginally decreased due to repetitive story and concept, however, it's still a famous zombie apocalypse movie.

Indian Television hasn't really leant towards 'dead human eating human' idea, however, who knows, one day there could be a TV series based on zombies.

Trivia: 'CARL!' became one of the famous one-word dialogue in 2014. In most of the scenes which were shared by Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln) and his son, Carl Grimes (played by Chandler Riggs), the first dialogue of Rick would always be 'CARL!'.

Genre: Drama

5. HOUSE OF CARDS

HOUSE OF CARDS

Another top-rated series on Netflix, 'House of Cards' is one of the pioneers in the Political Drama genre. Based on BBC mini-series having the same name which was adapted from a book, 'House of Cards' written by  Michael Dobbs. The story revolves around Francis Underwood, a cunning, methodical, vicious minister who with his wife, Claire Underwood, a persuasive, manipulative yet ambiguous lady takes revenge with those people who wronged him. The series is all about vengeance, revenge and the political supremacy.

House of Cards is again totally different concept. India is known for its political. Frankly speaking, for Indians, the political news is the Indian version of 'House of Cards'.

Trivia: 'House of Cards', the book, written by Michael Dobbs actually inspired another TV series which is considered as Classic in Political Drama genre, 'The West Wing', created by Aaron Sorkin.

Genre: Political Drama

4. F.R.I.E.N.D.S (👍)

F.R.I.E.N.D.S

One of the most popular as well as top-rated sitcom TV series of all time, F.R.I.E.N.D.S is truly a classic. One of the famous TV series ran by Warner Brothers, the series revolves around six New Yorkers and their adventures which are truly fun to watch. This series is a combination of everything; love, hate, bond, desperation, friendship, Everything!

F.R.I.E.N.D.S is famous in India. Most of the people who watch American TV Series have watched this classic. Comparing this Indian television series is not possible. You can't compare a classic with some other show.

Trivia: F.R.I.E.N.D.S final episode 'The Last One: Part 2' is still one of the most popular episode of the whole series and was watched the most. On contrary to that, its first part which was broadcasted just before part 2 didn't get that much attention as the latter part got.

Genre: Comedy

3. THE WIRE

THE WIRE

Maybe to some people, 'The Wire' in top 3 may sound weird as they might be expecting 'Sherlock' or 'The Sopranos', but Sherlock is a British TV series and the popularity of 'The Wire' is much more than that of 'The Sopranos', hence this drug related TV series lands on our charts. The story revolves around Det. James McNutty and how he took out the cloth from hidden drug 'food chain'. It shows how the Baltimore Drug scene was seen through the eyes of drug dealers as well as law enforcers.

The concept was totally new at that time. Even after 9 years, I didn't see any Indian TV series revolving around this concept. Hence, incomparable.

Trivia: 'The Wire' was created by David Simon, a police reporter at The Baltimore Sun. Inspired from the incidents, he wrote his first book 'Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets which later became the basis of another hit TV series, 'Homicide: Life on The Street'.

Genre: Drama

 2. GAME OF THRONES (👍)

GAME OF THRONES

One of the top rated, most popular and my personal favourite, Game of Thrones revolves around the noble families of Westeros, fighting each other so to finally sit on Iron Throne. Game of Thrones, in the true sense, is a whole package. It contains love, hate, backstabbing, hatred, revenge, sadness, glory, some adult kinds of stuff which I won't name so to keep this blog below 18, it's EVERYTHING! Maybe I am sounding biased but this series is really awesome. Must-Watch.

My above lines tell how great this series is. Also, I know I will be biased with this series. Hence, use the brain and decide yourself.

Trivia: 'Game of Thrones' is known for its quote. 'Winter is Coming' is one of the famous quotes one of them. Also, the show has a record of most number of top-rated episodes in IMDb, 'Battle of the Bastards'(S06E09) and 'Hardhome'(S05E08).

Genre: Drama

1. BREAKING BAD (👍)

BREAKING BAD

To describe this series in one line, the series is all about how a humble innocent family-guy chemistry professor, Walter White, turned into ruthless, famous drug lord, Heisenberg. After finding about his stage III cancer and he has left with 2  years to live, Walter White with the help of one of his ex-students Jesse Pinkman started producing meth. This adventurous drama TV series is the Top Rated TV Series on the basis of number of votes in IMDb and TV.com.

Indian television doesn't promote drug related movies or TV series. Do you think Censor Board of India will promote the TV series related to the concept similar to Breaking Bad, the same Censor Board which banned a famous drug related movie 'Udta Punjab'? Like Udta Punjab, all the essential scenes will be cut and hence, that series will be of no use. Only if Censor Board is liberal, concepts like that of Breaking Bad could be shown in India. Until then, it's vague future.

Trivia: Jesse Pinkman (played by Aaron Paul) was actually going to be slated in S05E09. However, the director, Vince Gilligan was so moved by his acting that he dropped the idea of killing Jesse.

Talking about American TV series, let's even shed a light on Indian TV series. One of the Indian TV Series adopted the American Series idea which became really popular in India, 24. 24 (Indian TV Series) was inspired from 24 (American TV Series). The Indian TV Series creator was Anil Kapoor, the same guy who was also in the American series as President Omar Hassan.

However, after 24, no Indian series touched that level like that of 24. The concept of all the Indian TV series is similar, unlike of American TV Series where the ideas are totally different and innovative.

So that's it for today.

Happy Watching!!

Comments

  1. Kinda agree. American TV series are much better than 'Saas-bahu' serials.

  2. Maybe The Sopranos is better than wire, but can't disagree too. Both are badass however, I feel wire is more real than Sopranos, so maybe the list is correct. Overall, kind of arguable but from one pov, it's correct.

How I Met Your Mother - The Real Successor of F.R.I.E.N.D.S

When we saw the last episode of F.R.I.E.N.D.S, we know how miserable situation we were in. We got ourselves ready, got a box of tissues, a Redbull and at the end, those really helped. Well at least for me it helped. I cried a little when F.R.I.E.N.D.S ended, maybe because of my craziness towards the series or being 'awe' of Chandler-Monica's love story or c'mon! you must have grinned at least once when Joey says, 'How you doin'?' That was the charisma of this series. However, most of you surely felt sad and gloomy after watching the series completely. The first question that pops in our head is 'What to do now?'. Yea, that's common because we spent a good part of our life on this series. For some, watching the show might have become one of the most important basic activities and for others, who just watched the show when it only came on TV or when it came on Netflix. By the way, the latter are not true fans in my view, true fans are those who sp
